Using Fyxer with Outlook: supported versions and best settings

Supported versions of Outlook and how to set them up.

Updated over a week ago

Fyxer works across most versions of Outlook, but performance depends on which version you're using.

Supported Outlook versions

Best performance:

  • Outlook Web (browser-based) – highly recommended

  • New Outlook for Mac or Windows – stable and reliable

  • Outlook Desktop (Mac) – fully supported

Functional, but less reliable:

  • Classic Outlook (legacy desktop version for Windows) – works for some features, but can be less stable

Not supported:

  • Apple Mail (macOS/iOS Mail app)

  • Third-party clients (e.g. Thunderbird, Notion Mail, Spark, Superhuman)

  • On-premise or hybrid Exchange servers (limited API support)

💡 Tip: If you're unsure which version you're running, try switching to Outlook Web for the smoothest experience.

Recommended settings

Update these settings to get the most out of email categorization and drafts.

1. Outlook Desktop (Mac)

Go to Outlook → View and adjust the dropdown options:

  • Select Show as conversations

  • Turn off Focused inbox

Then in Settings, select the following options:

  • Show email group by conversation

  • Show sent messages in conversation

2. Outlook Web and New Outlook (Windows/Mac)

Go to Settings → Mail → Layout → Message Organization

  • Turn off Focused Inbox for clearer visibility of categories

  • Enable Group messages by conversation

  • Set newest messages on top

  • Hide deleted items for cleaner threads

3. Classic Outlook (Windows – legacy version)

Note: not recommended, but functional if needed.

Go to View → "Arrange by" and "Show as conversations"

  • Turn off Focused Inbox for clearer visibility of categories

  • Enable Show as conversations

  • Set newest messages on top

  • Hide deleted items for cleaner threads

Known limitations in Classic Outlook

There are some cosmetic and workflow behaviors to be aware of. None affect email delivery, content, or Fyxer's core functionality.

Issue

Impact

What's happening

Signature images not loading in the preview pane

You may see a red cross in place of signature images when previewing an email.

This is a cosmetic issue on your side only – recipients always see the full, correctly rendered signature. Double-clicking to open the email fully will also load the signature correctly for you.

Extra spacing in email threads

When Fyxer generates a draft in an existing thread, previous emails in the thread may display with additional spacing in the preview pane.

This is a visual quirk only and doesn't affect sending, delivery, or how the recipient sees the thread: the content of all emails is completely unchanged.

Attachments not visible when a draft is active

In conversation mode, attachments aren't visible in the preview pane while a draft is active on a "To do" email.

This is a preview pane limitation in Classic Outlook – the attachment and email itself are unaffected. To view the attachment, discard the draft, open the attachment, then return to re-access the draft.

Font settings not saving in drafts

When editing a draft in Classic Outlook, font changes, such as size, family, or color, may not save as expected.

This is a Classic Outlook compatibility limitation. To avoid it, edit and send drafts in Outlook Web or New Outlook, where font settings save correctly.

💡 Tip: switching to Outlook Web or New Outlook avoids all of these limitations.

Troubleshooting and tips

  • If Fyxer's categories don't appear, check that conversation view is turned on

  • For duplicate or reappearing archived emails, make sure you've disabled Focused Inbox

  • If performance is inconsistent, switch to Outlook Web for best results
