Why was I charged more than expected?

Updated today

If your Fyxer bill is higher than you anticipated, it's usually due to a plan change, added seats, or billing timing - not an error.

Start Here: Quick Checks (2 Minutes)

Before diving deeper, check these first:

  1. Open your Fyxer Dashboard → Settings → Billing

  2. Review:

    • Your current plan

    • Number of seats

    • Billing cycle (monthly or annual)

  3. Click Manage Subscription to open the Stripe billing portal and view your invoice breakdown

Most billing surprises can be explained from this page alone.

Common Reasons Your Bill Increased

1. New seats were added to your workspace

Fyxer is billed per seat.

This can happen if:

  • You invited teammates

  • Someone joined your workspace using the same company email domain

  • Auto-add domain was turned on

Each active user counts as a paid seat, even if they haven't used Fyxer yet.

What to check:

  • Go to Settings → Team

  • Review who's been added and when

  • Remove any users you don't need (billing updates next cycle)

2. Auto-add domain added users automatically

If Automatically add users for this domain is enabled, anyone signing up with your company email domain can be added to your workspace - and your bill.

This is the #1 cause of unexpected multi-seat charges.

What to check:

  • Go to Settings → Organization

  • Look for Automatically add users for this domain

  • Toggle it OFF if you want full control over seat additions

3. You're on the Pro plan (trial default)

All trials start on Pro, which is priced higher than Starter.

Some users expect Starter pricing immediately, but:

  • The trial includes Pro features

  • Charges reflect the plan active at the time of billing

What to check:

  • Go to Settings → Billing

  • Confirm whether you're on Starter or Pro

  • You can downgrade anytime - changes apply to future billing

4. Proration after adding or removing seats

If seats change mid-billing cycle, your invoice may include prorated charges.

This can look like:

  • A partial charge for added seats

  • A higher-than-normal one-time invoice

  • Multiple line items on the same bill

This is expected behavior and ensures you're only charged for time used.

5. Annual vs monthly billing confusion

Annual plans are billed upfront and include a 25% discount.

Common confusion:

  • Annual charge looks large compared to monthly pricing

  • Switching billing cycles mid-period creates prorated adjustments

Check the top of your invoice to confirm whether it's monthly or annual.

6. Currency conversion or bank fees

If you're billed in a different currency, your bank may apply:

  • Conversion fees

  • Foreign transaction charges

These are set by your bank, not Fyxer.

How to Prevent Surprise Charges Going Forward

We recommend:

  • Turning Auto-add domain OFF

  • Reviewing your Team list regularly

  • Confirming your plan before trial ends

  • Using annual billing if cost predictability matters
